Forage

Gizzard shad are present, but they often grow too large to be utilized by most species. The smaller threadfin shad are superb prey but are prone to die-off during harsh winters. To stabilize forage base fluctuations, alewives were introduced with outstanding results for most gamefish populations. An abundant crayfish population and various minnow species are important to the prey component.

Stocking

Walleye, black-nose crappie and trout species have been stocked in recent years.

Treatment

A number of tire fish attractors have been added throughout the lake. In recent years, ongoing cedar tree fish attractor have been installed. Most of the locations are marked with stationary buoys. Additionally, the Corps of Engineers has installed spawning structures (called spawning benches) for smallmouth bass.
